Get ready, you sons and daughters of malt. Queen Liz deemed October B.C.’s official Craft Beer Month and CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) is celebrating with two events, Oktoberfest and Harvestfest, on Oct. 15, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Malone’s Urban Drinkery.

Yes, that’s two events, in one pub, on one day. Brewski multitasking has never been easier for hard-core hopheads.

Oktoberfest: Oktoberfest takes place in Malone’s main room and has all the essential Bavarian goodness of locally-brewed, Oktoberfest-themed bier in casks and kegs. Tasting highlights include Red Truck’s Kolsch and German Amber Ale, Great Western Brewing’s Organic Festbier, Big River Brew Pub’s German style Dark Wheat Ale, and Whistler Brewing Company’s Weissbier.

CAMRA will hand out prizes for best dirndl/lederhosen get-up and of course, there will be a yodeling contest. Once your eardrums recover, enjoy tunes from The Creaking Planks, who will play a mash up of their own music and merry beer-hall anthems to set the gemütlichkeit mood.

Harvestfest: I’m guessing by now the Thanksgiving gluttony has worn off and your pants are starting to fit, which means you’re ready for another good nosh at Harvestfest, held in Malone’s lounge hall. The event celebrates the changing flavours of the harvest season with casks of innovative, seasonal craft beer.

Expect notes of pumpkins, plenty of imperial IPAs, fresh hops, earthy tones and robust, full-flavoured ales. Rumor has it some brewers even used wild chanterelles mushrooms.  Highlights include: Elysian Brewing’s Night Owl Pumpkin Ale, Coal Harbour Brewing’s Pumpkin Saison, Lighthouse Brewing Company’s Keepers Stout Ice Cream Floats, Whistler Brewing Company’s Chestnut Amber Ale and Granville Island’s Fresh Hopped ESB.

More details: Malone’s Urban Drinkery (525 Seymour St.) will offer food pairings to accompany the beer styles in each room. Check out the full menu on the event site. Tickets are $25  ($20 for CAMRA Members*) available on Eventbrite, and come with a 6oz. tasting glass which you get to keep, plus three tasting tokens. Each additional token is $1.
