Vancouver Art for Life Fine Art Auction – November 26, 2011

Enjoy live performances from Bif Naked and the Drag Queens of Vancouver, mingle with local artists, build your own art collection, and help support people living with life-threatening diseases at the 18th annual Art for Life Fine Art Auction this Saturday, November 26, at Vancouver’s Rocky Mountaineer Station*.

The Vancouver Art for Life Fine Art Auction brings together over 90 artworks donated by Vancouver’s top independent artists and galleries, including works from the famous South Granville galleries Bau-Xi Gallery and Ian Tan Gallery. The collection is valued at over $200,000 dollars, and proceeds from the sale go to the Vancouver Friends for Life Sociery, a non-profit organization that offers 60 programs and services for people confronting the challenges of HIV/ AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, as well as their caregivers.

Even if the art up for auction is out of your price-range—the live auction pieces are expected to sell for between $2,500 – $15,000—the evening itself will still be loads of fun. For 2011, Art for Life has created an “Auction in Three Acts,” with live performances punctuating the end of each of the auction’s three lots. Act I (Lots 1 – 15) ends with a performance by Public Dreams, Act II (Lots 16 -30) finishes with a performance by the Drag Queens of Vancouver (Carlotta Gurl, Coco, Joan-E, Milan, Robyn Graves & Summer Clearance), and Act III (Lots 31 -45) culminates with a finale performance by Vancouver’s own Bif Naked!

Tickets for this wonderful charity event are on sale now for $90 per person; see the Art for Life website for details.

*Though Art for Life is happening at the Rocky Mountaineer Station, you don’t need to worry about crossing picket lines: the Vancouver Friends for Life Society has worked with Teamsters Local 31 (the union involved with the dispute with Great Canadian Railtour Company Ltd) to ensure that there will be no picket lines at the Fine Art Auction; in exchange, Friends for Life have agreed not to book the Rocky Mountaineer Station for their 2012 event “unless the management and staff can reach a mutually‐satisfactory agreement”. You can find more details about the arrangement here.
