Vancouver Playhouse Wine Fest Returns, Feb 27-March 4

For oenophiles, it’s the event of the year.  More than 1600 different wines from 15 countries.  180 world-class wineries.  64 gala events attended by more than 25,000 wine lovers.

The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival is back this Feb. 27-March 4.  The 34th installment of the wildly popular festival promises to be one of the most extravagant ever, with seven days of tastings, wine-paired dinners at top Vancouver restaurants, seminars and informal minglers.

Taking center stage at this year’s festival are the New World wines of Chile, ranging from the region’s signature Merlots and Cabernets to crisp Sauvignon Blancs and luscious Chardonnays.

The party kicks off on Feb. 28 with a special Taste Chile wine and food mingler at Vancouver’s historic Waldorf Hotel.  Expect Chilean canapés paired with a selection of exquisite regional wines.

Excitement builds throughout the week, with a packed line-up of public wine seminars, gala dinners and auctions and food pairings at venues across the city.  But the highlight is the International Festival Tastings (March 1, 2 and 3; $95).  Hundreds of wineries, thousands of wines and thousands of wine lovers come together inside the enormous waterfront Vancouver Convention Centre.  It’s the mother-of-all wine tastings and one of the liveliest parties of the year.
