Featured Vancouverite: Lori Henry

Hometown: Port Coquitlam, British Columbia

How long have you been a Vancouverite? 12 years

Occupation:
Travel writer and author. I cover mostly culture, outdoor adventures, dance and wellness all over the world, although I find myself writing a lot about Vancouver, too. My newest book is Dancing Through History: In Search of the Stories that Define Canada.

Favourite Vancouver neighbourhood:
Main Street. I’ve lived in six different places along Main Street over the last 12 years. Although the ‘hood has changed quite a bit – both in ways I like and ways I don’t like – it is still my favourite area of the city. Along Main, I like Front & Company for clothes, The Grind & Gallery for a daytime rendez vous, and East is East or Café Montmartre for dinner (or I just walk the street until I find something interesting).

Your best Vancouver haiku:
Running the seawall
Then devouring sushi
Before a ‘nucks game

Favourite Vancouver artists:
My three favourite dancers in the city are Cori Caulfield, Crystal Pite (Crystal’s company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM, has moved to Germany, although she still brings her shows here), and Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg. Check them out.

Best way to spend $20 in Vancouver:
Make a reservation for the Irish Heather’s Long Table Series. For $18 (dinner and an artisan beer or beverage), you sit at a 40-foot communal table and chow down on comfort food with people you don’t know. For travellers, this is a great way to meet locals over a casual meal. Don’t be shy!
