Waldorf Hotel Hosts Canada Day Block Party with Food Cart Festival, July 1

Where can you find all the elements of an epic bash in one place? The Waldorf Hotel’s first annual Canada Day Block Party that takes place Sunday, July 1.

Planning what to do on Canada Day can be as tricky as planning New Year’s Eve. But the Waldorf makes it easy. The festivities, which are free and family-friendly, run from noon to 6pm and include 9 food carts, live music, djs, a carnival and a beer garden all in the Waldorf’s newly-opened outdoor summer space.

If you’re still craving more after eating your way through the food-filled Waldorf bash, you have time to hop over to the Canada Day Parade at Canada Place (7pm) and Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show (10:30pm).

Find out about the participating food carts at the Waldorf’s Canada Day Block Party after the jump.

Participating Food Carts at Waldorf Hotel’s Canada Day Block Party

Logistically, sampling Vancouver’s growing army of food carts is rarely this easy. Produced in conjunction with the Street Food Vancouver Society, the block party has 9 food carts signed up so far and more coming. The participants you can count on are: La Brasserie, Soho Road, Tacofino, Off the Wagon, Re-Up, Juice Truck, Mom’s Grilled Cheese, Didi’s Greek and Street Meet.

What should you save room for? Perhaps you remember Remy’s post on the La Brasserie chicken sandwich, but haven’t yet got your mitts on one. From Remy: “They’ve got the recipe down to a science: Start with beer-brined rotisserie chicken. Put it on a freshly baked buttermilk bun. Add some homemade gravy and crispy fried onions and voila: perhaps the world’s best poultry-based sandwich.”

Tacofino’s tacos and burritos, which have been featured on Food Networks’ Eat Street, speak for themselves. Tacofino’s lime-mint freshie and chocolate diablo cookie are two unexpected menu items that complement a summer street party.

Mom’s Grilled Cheese is another favourite, boasting  six cheese choices (including vegan) melted between doorstops of fresh-baked artisan bread. The kool-aid and old school floats are a decadent sarnie accompaniment.

As if all that wasn’t enough for lunch and dinner, the Waldorf will also debut a fish taco stand – menu designed by the NUBA and Waldorf chef Cesar De la Parra.

The Waldorf Canada Day Block Party in conjunction with Yelp and Street Food Vancouver Society is a free event that takes place 12pm-6pm in the Waldorf parking lot at 1489 E.Hastings. All ages are welcome.
