Featured Vancouverite: Rebecca Bree

Hometown: Regina, Saskatchewan, but I consider Vancouver to be my home now.

How long have you been a Vancouverite? Going on six years.

My fashion career began straight out of high school when I enrolled in the Fashion Design program at the Academy of Design in Montreal. I have managed high-end fashion retailers in both Montreal and Vancouver for over a decade, including my most recent stint as an associate at Holt Renfrew where I worked for brands such as Elie Tahari, Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta. I’ve always dreamed of owning my own boutique, so I’m thrilled that I now have the opportunity to style and engage with Vancouver’s most fashion-forward residents.

Favourite place in the city:
I love going down to Kits Beach. It doesn’t get much better when you have views of the city, the ocean, and the mountains. I also try to go to Stanley Park and walk the seawall as much as I can.

Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
I would start off the morning by grabbing a coffee at Arbutus Coffee in Kitsilano, then head down to the beach for a walk with my boyfriend and our dog Hugo. Next, I would pay a visit to Spa Utopia to see my friend Kim (an esthetician extraordinaire) for the most incredibly relaxing facial you will ever have. Following the spa, I would grab some lunch at Le Marché St. George and enjoy their delicious flatbread. The decor in the restaurant always whisks me away to Paris — it’s a wonderful place. After lunch, it’s time for a siesta. I would head home for some tea, peruse Harper’s Bazaar, and have a catnap. As the night approaches, I would pick out a fabulous outfit, some killer heels, and head out for cocktails with my ladies. Some of our favourite places are The Keefer Bar, Yew Restaurant + Bar, and The Diamond.

Favourite Vancouver restaurant:
L’Abattoir in Gastown never disappoints — you must have the Steak Diane! In Point Grey, where my store is located, I love to dine at La Quercia. They have incredible service and the food is to die for.

Favourite fashion designers:
My top five include Alexander McQueen, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig for Marchesa, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, and Derek Lam.

Favourite item you will carry at your shop:
I handpick each piece in the store, so I love everything. Some of my favourites include a Lulu Frost brass mesh bracelet with a deco vintage removable brooch, a pale pink cropped blazer by Twenty8Twelve, the most amazing leather cape by up-and-coming designer Max Fowles, who is based out of LA, an emerald green metallic tweed top by Tibi, and a Kelly Green houndstooth jacket by Canadian designer Smythe.

  1. I’d like to nominate Heather Magee for your Featured Vancouverite column. Heather has lived in Vancouver for over 10 years. She’s a PR professional by day; blogger by night contributing to Huffington Post BC and The Province. Her blog UrbanCowgirlVancouver.com covers a wide variety of lifestyle and entertainment topics, all from the perspective of a 30-something Vancouverite. She’s definitely a girl about town, so I’d consider her for one of your upcoming features.

    • Thanks for the note, Giovanni! I’ll reach out to Heather this week and see if she is game to participate.
