Don’t get too stuffed over the holidays – January is shaping up to be a delicious month in Vancouver.

Details on the 2013 Dine Out Vancouver Festival, Jan. 18-Feb. 3, are slowly leaking out.  More than 200 top restaurants will be offering up three-course, discounted menus at $18, $28 and $38 price points (Participating restaurants and menus will be unveiled Jan. 7).

But this year’s Dine Out Festival also features dozens of creative, zany and mouthwatering culinary events – from tastings to tours and themed dinners.  Here are just a few can’t-miss happenings:

Street Food City II: For the second year, food cart lovers will be treated to a street eats bonanza.  A collection of the city’s finest street carts (TBA) will assemble outside the Vancouver Art Gallery.  Held over five consecutive days, the event features festive music and plenty of outdoor heated seating so you can nosh in comfort.  Jan. 23-27; 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  North Plaza, Vancouver Art Gallery.

Off the Eaten Track in RailtownWhere are some of the city’s hottest and most progressive restaurants popping up?  Not Gastown or Yaletown, but Railtown: the gritty, waterfront neighbourhood on the edge of the Downtown Eastside.  Come along on this guided tour of Railtown’s emerging culinary landmarks, featuring food and drink samples at five restaurants (including H.A.V.E. Cafe, a unique cooking school for local residents).  Jan. 25, Feb. 1; 1:30 p.m.  Starts at H.A.V.E. Cafe.  $35.

Secret Supper Soiree: This perennially sold-out Dine Out Event is equal parts mystery, glamour and gluttony.  A bright pink double-decker bus whisks guests – many dressed in vintage 1930s dresses and suits – across the city to not one but two mystery dinner locations.  The event includes five courses, three wine tastings and plenty of intrigue.  Jan. 25, Jan. 26, Feb. 1, Feb. 2; 6 p.m. $99 (before Dec. 31); $129 (after Dec. 31).

Hawksworth @ Holt Renfrew:  Get a sneak peek at spring 2013 fashions – and a meal from one of Vancouver’s most celebrated restaurants – inside Holt Renfrew at this unique event combining haute couture and haute cuisine.  A cocktail and canape reception in the designer boutiques is followed by wine-paired dinner and dessert.  Meanwhile, models show off the latest lines for men and women.  Jan. 29; 7 p.m. Holt Renfrew at Pacific Centre. $199 ($249 for VIP package).

Tea Cocktails & TapasTea-infused cocktails and cuisine are suddenly popping up in trendy restaurants in Vancouver and across North America.  Join the experts from the Urban Tea Merchant for a demo on how to make tea-infused drinks like the the matcha sour (a variation of the whisky sour) and tea-flavoured dishes like the smoky Lapsang Souchong chicken cone.  The event also includes a tasting flight of cocktails and tapas.  Jan. 25; Urban Tea Merchant at 1070 W. Georgia St.  $48.

These are just a few of the scrumptious events planned for the 2013 Dine Out Vancouver Festival.  You can see the entire lineup here.
