Champagne, party favours, and dancing—these are the standbys for New Year’s Eve events. If you’re lucky, you might even get a balloon drop or a DJ who can get the party started. And if you’re really lucky, you might get some New Orleans-style beads (the meaning of which we’re still not clear on).

We’ve looked at some of the options for this New Year’s in Vancouver and come up with a few ideas to make the night a memorable one.

FASHION TV Presents New Year’s Eve 2013 at the Terminal City Club (837 W. Hastings St)—The fashion and lifestyle television channel Fashion TV is throwing this party at one of Vancouver’s most prestigious (that is, private) clubs. Red carpet, REAL Champagne (as opposed to the lower-case “champagne”, which simply means bubbly, elsewhere) and casino tables are part of the fun. The party also includes local jazz musician Rob Weaver with a full band and DJ Rachel Sehl with live drums and sax. Oh, and did we mention go-go dancers? It’s strictly a black-tie affair, i.e. tuxes for gents and formal gowns for the ladies. Other rules: arrival time is between 9 – 10:30 p.m. and you must be over 25. Tickets start at $135+tax. Buy them here.

NYE 2013 at Telus World of Science (1455 Quebec St)—Party at Science World! Usually aimed at the kiddies, this Vancouver attraction puts on its big-people clothes and hosts a sexy NYE party. This year, two rooms of music on two floors, six DJs, a sound and light system befitting a World of Science, five fully licensed bars and a capacity of 1,100 people make this at least one of the biggest, if not best, parties of the night. Tickets start at $80 plus service fee, and are here.

Masquerade NYE 2013 at Barcelona Ultra Lounge (1180 Granville St)As befits an “ultra lounge” (i.e. a lounge with the word “ultra” added), Barcelona Ultra Lounge in downtown Vancouver presents a 10-girl live performance from The Stilettoettes. The Stilettoettes perform on high heels. Barcelona will also be distributing complimentary masks for that masked-ball effect. Tickets starting at $55 here.

Elevation at Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre (555 W. Hastings)—Rise above the hoi-polloi this New Year’s Eve from a 555 ft vantage point. With views of downtown Vancouver, the North Shore, East Van and Burnaby, you can enjoy two rooms of music. Tickets start at $85 and are here.

New Year’s in Narnia 2 at the Keefer Bar (135 Keefer St)—This Chinatown hang picks up where it left off last year with a theme based on the Narnia series of fantasy novels by C.S. Lewis. The Sweet Soul Burlesque troupe, which includes Lola Frost (pictured), will perform three sets of magical Narnia-themed burlesque to ring in the New Year. Tickets starting at $25 here.

NYE at Opus Bar at the Opus Hotel Vancouver (522 Davie St)—The Opus always does things in style, so you can expect the same for the hotel’s NYE celebration. Tickets are $100, which includes a host bar from 10 p.m. to midnight and a DJ ’til 2 a.m. Reserve at nye@opushotel.com.
