There’s something about spring’s approach that signals craft fairs. Early blooms remind me of the intricate, beautiful and ornamental wares by local folk artists. Plus, spring means weddings galore and all the gifts that weddings (and their little sister: bridal showers) require.

With that in mind, here are six Vancouver craft fairs coming our way in spring 2013. Whether you’re browsing the crafts on offer or looking to set up your own booth, here are the dates you need to know.

6 Vancouver Craft Fairs in Spring 2013

1) Blim Market, Heritage Hall, Sunday, March 17
60 vendors will fill Heritage Hall at 15th and Main Street with goodies including vintage wear and crafts such a jewelry, pottery, cards and more gifts. Eats will be by Open Sesame – more on that here. Blim runs from 12-6pm.

2) Portobello West Spring Market, Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25
The Creekside Community Centre craft fair venue at 1 Athletes Way in Olympic Village offers a stunning view of False Creek and access to craft beer paradise upstairs at Tap & Barrel. Founded in 2006, this market Vancouver classic. Vendor details coming soon.

3) Nifty for Fifty Sale, Heritage Hall, Sunday, April 14
This one is for your spring wardrobe. The best, local-design blowout sale of the year featuring over 30 Vancouver fashion designers selling everything from clothing to shoes and hats, all for $50 or less. It runs 11am-8pm, but don’t meander. The best deals are the first to go.

4) Make It Vancouver, Friday-Sunday, April 19-21
Head over to the Croatian Cultural Centre at 3250 Commercial Drive to get involved in the “handmade revolution.” This spirited craft-show-meets-party is super modern. They take the granny out of crafting.

5) Got Craft? Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28,
Why shop this craft fair? Because MALL is a four letter word. This one goes down at the Maritime Labour Centre at 1880 Triumph Street from 10am to 5pm each day. In addition to baked treats, crafts, and gifts, you can also sign up for a DIY workshops taking place on site.

6) Great Canadian Craft Fair, Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12
This gargantuan DIY extravaganza goes down under the sails at the waterfront Vancouver Convention Centre, 10am-8pm Saturday, and 10am to 5pm Sunday. Over 500 artists, designers, builders, bakers and even candlestick makers will set up booths.
