Chinatown’s young creatives have teamed up with the Vancouver Chinatown Merchant’s Association to breathe new life into the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market— the neighbourhood’s popular annual summer event.

For those who grew up attending the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market, set in Canada’s largest Chinatown, many of usual food and trinket vendors (think blinged-out cell phone cases, toys, Chinese street eats) are returning. The new vendors joining the throng add a tempting mish-mash of handmade wares including hand pies, home accessories, stationary, crafts, jewelry and books.

Meet some of the hip, new Vancouver Chinatown Night Market vendors after the jump.

5 New Vancouver Chinatown Night Market Vendors

The Pie Shoppe
By day Stephanie and Andrea French run a 300-sq.-ft. retail spot at 721 Gore Ave. in Chinatown. On summer nights, find the mini versions of their butter, fruit and nut pastries at the Chinatown Night Market. Ingredients are, of course, local and often organic. The menu changes with the BC growing season.

Aka Design General Store
When this clever design company says “fine goods” they mean conversation starters like a pillow that resembles Ryan Gosling’s face, and retro pennants reading “You Dim Sum; You Lose Some.” Browse with caution, it’s easy to get sucked in.

Harth Adornments
Holly Rae Arthur is my favourite Vancouver jewelry designer at the moment. Fall for her leather tassel necklaces, geometric hand-cut brass necklaces and statement sterling silver “star” rings.

Winner Winner Chicken on Rice
Chen-Wei Lee and Stanley Yung’s stand serves Singaporean style chicken on Jasmine rice with homemade ginger and – bright orange – hot sauce for just for just $6 a box.

Rock Paper Scissors
Find the night market crowd intimidatingly beautiful? Get spruced up at Rock Paper Scissors. Stylist Michelle is offering men’s and women’s cuts, neck trims and bang clean ups, blow outs and styles to get your weekend started.

The Vancouver Chinatown Night Market takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 6pm to 11pm through September 8, rain or shine. It’s located on Keefer Street between Main & Columbia.
