2013 saw some pretty innovative and fun burlesque shows in Vancouver, from Star Wars: A Nude Hope to Video Game Burlesque Reloaded. And, with Beatles Burlesque and Dirty Dancing Burlesque, bandleader Blue Morris was at the forefront of bringing new twists to an old form.

Morris’ latest creation looks like it could be one of his best yet – a burlesque salute to the movies of Quentin Tarantino.

The Jan. 10 show at Vancouver FanClub will combine dance routines with music from the movies, performed by a live band.

It will be interesting to see which movies will be showcased. While routines based on earlier movies like Pulp Fiction (a dance to Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man” is a must) and Reservoir Dogs are a sure thing, later period films like Django Unchained (slavery) and Inglourious Basterds (World War II) might be a little more difficult to translate to burlesque. Other possibilities: selections from Jackie Brown (which has some great, often obscure soul tunes on the soundtrack) and of course the Kill Bill series (count on seeing at least one dancer in Uma Thurman’s infamous yellow jumpsuit).

Choreographing the show is dancer Voodoo Pixie. According to producer Morris, quoted in a press release: “She’s a big Tarantino fan and knows his films inside-out.”
