One of Canada’s most scenic marathons just got some world-class recognition.

Forbes has named the BMO Vancouver Marathon one of the Top 10 Marathons Worth Traveling For in 2014. Vancouver’s stunning seaside route ranks alongside legendary courses in London, Paris, Napa Valley, Boston, South Africa and other global hotspots. “In total you’ll wind through 12 different areas of the city,” the article notes, “and 70 percent of the course flaunts shoreline views.”

Ready to run? The 43rd installment of the BMO Vancouver Marathon is scheduled for May 4, 2014. The course starts at Vancouver’s highest point, Queen Elizabeth Park, before winding through the city’s residential West Side, curling along waterfront Point Grey and past the legendary beaches of Kitsilano, and finally plunging into downtown and circling 1,000-acre Stanley Park.

Interested in taking in all those ocean views, snow-capped mountains and cherry-blossom-lined streets but not ready for the full marathon? The event also features a half-marathon, 8K and several shorter races aimed at teens and kids. And even if you’re not running you can get in on the action. On race day, the downtown finish line is transformed into a family-friendly street festival, with food carts, live music and more.
