Broadway Hits Coming to Vancouver

Vancouver has a global reputation for stunning West Coast vistas, incredible skiing and daring fusion cuisine. But Broadway hits?

You might be surprised. This spring and throughout 2014, the hottest musicals and first-rate Broadway performances are on stage at the city’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Here’s what’s in store:

  • Blue Man Group: Your favorite men in blue are coming to Vancouver. A global phenomenon, with hit shows in Las Vegas and around the world, the Blue Men explore the intersection of music, technology and comedy in high-energy stage shows that defy expectations. March 25-March 30.
  • The Book of Mormon: From the wacky minds of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone comes what The New York Times has called “the best musical of this century.” Winner of nine Tony Awards, The Book of Mormon follows a pair of naïve missionaries into the heart of Uganda, offering an off-kilter take on organized religion and musicals themselves, often with hilarious results. April 7-April 12.
  • Wicked: Winner of multiple Tony Awards and even a Grammy, Wicked offers a fascinating prequel to the Wizard of Oz story. Long before Dorothy arrives in Oz, two girls’ lives collide sending them on wildly different paths. One will become Glinda the Good; the other will grow into the notorious Wicked Witch of the West. May 28-June 29.
  • Flashdance – The Musical: A Pittsburgh steel welder by day and bar dancer by night dreams of becoming a professional performer. Can she dance her way to the top or will her past drag her down? Flashdance the movie was a megahit when it was originally released in 1983. Now the Broadway version of the production and all of its hummable classics – Gloria, Maniac, Manhunt and, of course, Flashdance – What a Feeling – is coming to Vancouver. Nov. 11-Nov. 16.
