Early bird tickets to the 5th Annual BC Beer Awards and Festival go on sale today (Tuesday, Aug. 19). Craft brewing across the province will be celebrated at the Oct. 25 event, which takes place at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive) in Vancouver. Besides tastings and awards, there will also be four education classes to help you become a more discerning beer drinker.

The classes are only $15 each, and are taught by some our industry’s top talents. The classes include Flavours, Malts, History of Beer, and Hops. At the festival itself, there will be tastings, balloons, glitter, and a photobooth. The BC Beer Awards ceremony will be hosted by CBC announcer Stephen Quinn.

According to the press release, “Last year’s BC Beer Awards judging drew over 400 unique entries from over 40 BC breweries and brewpubs, with winners selected in 12 distinct categories. Judges included certified beer judges, cicerones, sommeliers, journalists, as well as noted beer and food lovers. The BC Beer Awards adheres to standards set by the Internationally-recognized Beer Judging Certification Program (BJCP).”

Last year’s winners include Driftwood Brewing’s Fat Tug IPA, Powell Street Craft Brewery’s Whiskey Porter, and Phillips Brewing Co.’s Chocolate Porter.
