Croquet tournament and High Tea at VanDusen this Saturday!


A garden party is coming to VanDusen Botanical Gardens this Saturday (Aug. 23). The First Annual Garden Party and Croquet Classic at VanDusen Botanical Gardens (5251 Oak Street) includes High Tea, cocktails, champagne, croquet and performance art installations. It’s probably safe to say VanDusen hasn’t seen anything like this in awhile, if ever.

The all-afternoon (noon to 6 p.m.) event kicks off at noon with High Tea, this one with traditional tea served alongside hors d’oeuvres and champagne. A croquet tournament begins at one p.m. (you can register a team of four at Throughout the afternoon, vodka cocktails, beer and bubbly will be served to keep your croquet swing fluid. There will also be live performance art installations, which could mean anything from living statues to people dressed as garden gnomes.


Proceeds from the event will go to the Backpack Buddies program. The program delivers backpacks of food to vulnerable children in inner city schools.
