Get Old Schooled at The Imperial September 5th

The Imperial hosts Gettin’ Old Schooled September 5th with DJ Kemo, Dino Archie and Jay Swing.

On September 5, two local DJs and a sometimes local comedian will attempt to school Vancouverites in music and laughter at Gettin Old Schooled at The Imperial.

DJ Kemo, of original Canuck rap kings The Rascalz fame, and Jay Swing, a veteran of radio and club scene, will play separate rooms while LA-native and sometimes Vancouver resident Dino Archie will act as event MC, dishing out punchlines.

Starting the evening off, Dino Archie will treat the crowd to his gut-busting stand up. The host of Vancity Summer Comedy Extravaganza, preacher’s son and film studies grad splits his time between gigs at various comedy clubs in both Canada and the USA. I had the chance to go to his Vancity Comedy Extravaganza last year and trust me the guy is funny: like belly laugh, head-flung-back-wide-open-mouth-laugh hilarious.

DJ Kemo is set to spin some old school hip hop. And who better not to learn us in retro rap. Besides being one third of the Rascalz, DJ Kemo is an influential hip hop, R&B/soul, reggae, reggae ton and house music producer at Vanguards Music.

Jay Swing, a tune guru at local club nights “El Famoso”, “Grande” and “Big Up” spins at the Donnelly Groups Republic. He’s known for his deep virtual crate of music. Jay Swing will play soul and funk jams at Getting Old Schooled.

Doors open at 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 5th at The Imperial. Earlybird tickets ($18) are on sale now and can be purchased here.

Laughing and dancing, now if only all school years started this way.
