Vancouver Art/Book Fair 2014

The Vancouver Art/Book Fair is happening this weekend at the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street). The annual event brings in a plethora of guests and focuses on the art of books and bookmaking. The free event is the only international art book fair in Canada and only one of two on the West Coast. It’s expected to draw over 1500 people.

The two-day (Oct 4 & 5, 12 – 5 p.m.) event will feature nearly 100 local, national and international publishers, as well as programs, performances and installations. Artists are coming here from around the globe to show off their books, magazines, zines and other printed ephemera, as well as experimental forms of publication.

Check out some of the highlights below.

Landfill Editions – “Landfill Editions produces a variety of books – as well as events, objects and videos – that cover a broad range of subjects and project a strong visual voice. Frost will discuss his press and the production of their latest publication, Mould Map 4, at 2pm on Sunday, October 5 at the 2014 Vancouver Art/Book Fair,” according to the VA/BF blog.


Helena Keeffe, Standard Deviations – “Helena Keeffe is an artist and organizer who makes projects and events in response to specific situations, people and places. Her multi-phase project, Standard Deviation, addresses art and labour–related questions,” according to this VA/BF blog post. On Sunday, October 5 at 3 p.m., Keeffe shares her findings from a practicum and a series of workshops that looked at what key questions artists should ask themselves in defining standards for valuing their labour.


Jordan Abel – “Award-winning Nisga’a poet Jordan Abel’s second collection of poetry, Un/inhabited, maps the terrain of the public domain to create a layered investigation of the interconnections between language and land,” says this VA/BF blog post. On Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. at the VA/BF, he’ll present a performance, Q&A and book signing.
