Pumpkin pie. Jack’o’lanterns. Pumpkin spiced lattes. Giant pumpkins. Pumpkin martinis. The month of the pumpkin is here. Last year Miss 604 reported on the best pumpkin patches to visit, this year I’m sharing some of the best pumpkin events in the Lower Mainland.

Whether you like to carve it up for your front step on Halloween, marvel at giant pumpkins, see little kids dressed as a pumpkin or eat it in pie/cheesecake/sugarbun format there are a number of events geared toward pumpkin lovers of all ilk this month. Check out my round up of fun pumpkin-tastic activities this October

Carve a pumpkin – the Collingwood Community Police and Vancouver City Police host the 10th annual pumpkin carving contest at Kingsgate Mall October 30 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. It’s not too late to enter, so download the form here and demonstrate your pumpkin art awesomeness later this month.

Pick a pumpkin – Worth the drive out to Maple Ridge, Laity Pumpkin Patch is 18 acres of adventures for all ages. Not only are there seemingly millions of pumpkins to pick, the patch also has a corn maze, frontier town and farm animals to visit. And of course, visitors are welcome to take ridiculous pumpkin patch photos too.

Drink or eat a pumpkin – Throughout October the Fairmont Pacific Rim, Fairmont Waterfront and Airport will all feature our favourite orange squash in their restaurants.  Sample some homemade pumpkin ice cream made from pumpkins grown on the Fairmont Waterfront’s rooftop garden. Sip a Pumpkin Spiced Orchard Martini in the Jetside Bar at the Fairmont Airport. Visit the Fairmont Pacific Rim for a plethora of pumpkin-y treats like a pumpkin pie sugar bun at Giovane or a pumpkin Old-Fashioned at the Lobby Lounge.

Dance close to a pumpkin – Take your favourite kid(s) for a day of family fun, pumpkin picking and live music at the Loutet Farm Pumpkin Patch in North Vancouver October 18. Go on a farm tour, meet some friendly chickens or learn how to press apples all the while grooving to tot rockers GoGo Bonkers.

Marvel at monstrous pumpkins – On Saturday, October 25 goblins, gremlins and pumpkin lovers alike will converge on the Surrey Museum and Plaza for the annual Cloverdale Halloween Costume Parade and Pumpkin Power. Dress up in your best Halloween costume, have your photo taken with the giant group and then trick or treat through downtown Cloverdale. After the parade, ogle and photograph world championship-level, giant pumpkins grown by the ‘Pumpkin Guy’ Maurizio Camparmo.
