With an uncertain future, it seemed to everyone that the Parade of Lost Souls would be ending on a high note last year with thousands of revelers celebrating life and depth. Luckily, this year, the parade is back again with the event being organized by the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret Society–an artist collective of professional and emerging artists based in East Vancouver.

The Parade of Lost Souls is an alternative option to the typical Halloween parties that happen around October 31st. The annual tradition has been a Vancouver mainstay for the past 20 years, however this year it is being run for the first time without it’s founders (Public Dreams Society). It’s a celebration of light, music, fire, and death, being held on Saturday, November 1st from 7-10pm at a secret location!

The location of the festival is kept secret until midnight on Halloween, when it will be announced on the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret Society website. As usual it will be in some part of the Commercial Drive area of Vancouver.

The theme of this year’s parade is Masquerade and parade goers and participants are encouraged to come to the event with creative masks and the costumes they inspire. The event is very non-conventional and does not have many rules. Wear a costume, if you feel like it. Bring an instrument and join the roving carnival band, if you want. Make a dance, join a dance. Create a shrine, make a lantern. Anything goes.

The parade will be held on Commercial Drive from 7-10pm, and there will also be an official after party held at Astorinos (1739 Venables Street, Vancouver) starting at 9pm. The organizers have also set up an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for both events. You can contribute here, if you’re feeling generous!
