Family Day in Vancouver is a relatively new holiday and offers a great break between Christmas and Easter. Despite most people’s desire to spend the weekend catching up on sleep or hanging around in pajamas all day (oh, that’s just my desire?), why not spend the Family Day weekend in Vancouver actually hanging around with your family! (Whether it’s with your partner, your kids or someone else’s kids, or just you and your dog).

Here are five family-friendly things to do this long weekend in Vancouver to keep you and your loved ones entertained throughout three days of family-filled fun!

Family Fuse Weekend at the VAG

Every Sunday, the Vancouver Art Gallery offers unique activities geared towards children 12 & under and their families. For the 2015 BC Family Day, the Gallery will be open from 12-4pm encouraging visitors to experiment, learn and play for a free Family Day event!

There will be an exciting range of activities to participate in throughout the day, such as The Making Place, an art program with hands-on workshops and Art Agents, engaging conversations and activities designed to deepen the appreciation for art. The UBC Chinese Ensemble will present a special music performance inspired by the current exhibition. Entry to The Gallery is free for members and children aged 12 & under.

24 Hours of Winter on Grouse Mountain

*Due to inclement weather, it looks like 24 Hours of Winter on Grouse Mountain has been postponed.

While not actually on Family Day itself, it is worth celebrating early for the 24 Hours of Winter celebration being held on Saturday & Sunday this weekend in Vancouver. The event will keep the mountain open all night long with skiing, snowboarding, zip lining, a scavenger hunt, and tons of other fun stuff!

From sunset to sunrise you can dance the night away under starry skies as DJs spin your favourite tracks late into the night or glide down The Cut while taking in the spectacular Vancouver sunrise. There will also be countless family-friendly activities to everyone entertained. 24 Hours of Winter 2015 will start from 9am on Saturday, February 7, 2015 and will finish off at 10pm on Sunday, February 8, 2015.

Family Day Sleepover at the Vancouver Aquarium

Ever camped out next to a tank full of Beluga whales? Didn’t think so. The Vancouver Aquarium is hosting an ultra-cool Family Day event on Sunday, February 8, 2015 with a sleep over next to the Beluga whale exhibit.

Not just about the sleeping (or lack thereof), the Vancouver Aquarium is celebrating BC’s Family Day with a lot of neat scientific questions. Are plankton the original racecar? How do killer whales talk with their nose? Can you really use dish soap to wash oil out of your hair? You’ll find the answers to all these questions and more along with wacky and fun oceanic themed experiments. After a light snack, participants will set up camp in the underwater view gallery and catch some zZz’s with the Beluga Whales.
