If you have ever been on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola in Whistler and thought to yourself “woah, this is really high”, you couldn’t be more correct. The red cable cars that connect both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains has been providing both awe and fear in visitors since the beginning of its operation in 2008.

Now, the Peak 2 Peak is getting the respect it deserves by being included in the 2015 edition of the Guinness World Records Book.

For 2015, Guinness Records has awarded the gondola with two world records: “highest cable car above ground” and “longest unsupported span between two cable car towers“.

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola reaches a record high of 436 metres above Whistler’s valley floor (don’t look down!), while being suspended between two towers at the record breaking distance of 2.024km apart. So, if you’re planning on taking the newly minted world-record breaking gondola, not only will you get unparalleled views and a thrilling ride that spans two mountains, you’ll be able to brag that you rode the highest cable car above ground in the world!

Even while breaking records, the gondola transports guests between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains in only 11 minutes, allowing guests of all ages and levels of mobility to access a unique alpine experience.  It has even inspired a few daredevils to base jump from the height.

By breaking records and amazing guests, it is no wonder that the Peak 2 Peak gondola has helped attract over 2 million sightseeing and hiking visits since the beginning of its operation in 2008. On top of the records, the gondola has also been recognized as the number one landmark in Canada by Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards.

So, what are you planning to do this weekend? Maybe riding a gondola that’s breaking world records will be on the top of your to do list!? Have you ridden the Peak 2 Peak Gondola before, how did you like the experience? Let us know in the comment section!
