It’s time to start practicing your battle tactics because this Saturday, April 4th from 3:00 – 3:30pm pillow fighters of all ages will descend on the Vancouver Art Gallery to participate in the International Pillow Fight Day – one of the most anticipated events in Vancouver!

To celebrate the day of international pillow fighting, events have been organized in over 50 cities around the world, including Madris, Barcelona, Chicago, Berlin ,Portland, Daegu, Toronto, and of course… Vancouver!

Not only is this event special on its own, but this year marks Vancouver’s 10th anniversary since the first pillow was swung and feather went flying in 2005. The number of participants keeps increasing each year, and you can expect hundreds of revellers to bring their a-game to the fight at 3pm.

The catch for these types of events in Vancouver is that they are supposed to be sort of a secret… You hide your pillow on your body somewhere (wow, lots of pregnant people around the art gallery today!), casually mill about until 3pm, and then WHAM! someone takes the first swing and all bets are off.

If this is your first time attending the 2015 worldwide pillow fight event in Vancouver, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, wearing a costume is encouraged. Whether it’s just your comfiest pyjamas, a horse-face mask, or your unicorn onesie, come dressed to impress.

Second of all, some people get a little too into it if you know what I mean. Didn’t think a pillow could cause any damage? Wait until one’s hurtling into your head at speeds that pillows shouldn’t be hurtled. If you don’t want to get hurt, stay on the outskirts of the melee and you should be fine.

Third of all, the pillow fight at the Vancouver Art Gallery is really (really!) fun to participate in, but it’s also really fun to take pictures of! If you’re hoping to take photos of the event, stay away from flying pillows and watch out! Most participants won’t hit anyone who doesn’t have a pillow, but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.

Finally, there are a few rules to know about pillow fighting in Vancouver…

  1. “Don’t talk about [Pillow] Fight Club!”
  2. Don’t be in location until the exact minute.
  3. Hide your pillows.
  4. Rush in screaming “PILLOW FIIIIIIGHT!!!!!”
  5. After 15mins of excruciating fun, leave.
  6. Stay off the road and sidewalk. (don’t make this a police issue)
  7. Do NOT hit anyone with out a pillow! (this includes but is not limited to people with cameras, bystanders, civic authorities, cars, use common sense!!)
  8. “If this is your first [time] at [Pillow] Fight Club, you have to fight.”

International Pillow Fight Day will be celebrated in Vancouver at 3pm in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street, Vancouver), look for the people inconspicuously trying to hide pillows. Check out the main event page for more details.
