The lines will be around respective blocks when record stores all over North America open tomorrow (Saturday April 18). The annual massive vinyl fetish party known as Record Store Day always brings out music lovers in droves, especially first thing in the day, when the real collector’s items hit the shelves (and disappear shortly thereafter, only to reappear hours later on eBay at grossly inflated prices!).

But Record Store Day isn’t just an excuse to load up your credit card with specially-pressed releases (although many of the stores are also having sales on their regular stock). It’s also an opportunity to catch live bands as these vinyl emporiums move racks of records to accommodate local musicians on makeshift stages. A number of Vancouver stores are doing precisely that, giving people – whether they are building their record collections or still listening to CDs – the chance to see some bands.

But amongst all the talent, one name stands out. Eric Burdon of legendary sixties band The Animals is in town, and he’ll be meeting and greeting fans at Neptoon Records on Record Store Day in Vancouver.

Besides Burdon, there are plenty of other options. Here’s a brief (and by no means complete) rundown of who and what you can see this Saturday.

Neptoon Records (3561 Main St) features performances from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., with the Eric Burdon meet and greet between 5-6 p.m. There is a catch, however – Burdon will only be signing special new reissues and releases of The Animals, which are being sold in-store (Burdon also plays the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam that night). Also, for the fanatics out there – Neptoon opens its doors at 8 a.m.
