For five days only Cirque du Soleil is returning to Vancouver and bringing their astounding acrobatics, costumes, and gravity-defying tricks to the city in their show Varekai

Opting for something more concrete than the usual multi-coloured tents set up below the skytrain near Main Street, Cirque du Soleil will instead be performing at the at the Pacific Coliseum from May 20th – 24th with multiple shows running throughout the day.

Varekai is a show that focuses on an extraordinary world full of exotic creatures and a magical forest. The show’s description reveals that the world of Cirque du Soleil in Vancouver is one of mystery (and spandex pants):

From the sky falls a solitary young man, and the story of Varekaibegins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, this young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of all possibilities, begins an inspired incantation to life rediscovered.

The word Varekai means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. This production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to the infinite passion of those whose quest takes them along the path that leads to Varekai.

This show is full of the dramatic mix of circus arts and entertainment that has made the group of acrobats famous around the world. The Vancouver show will be running for five days only at the following times:

  • Wednesday, May 20, 2015: 7:30pm
  • Thursday, May 21, 2015: 7:30pm
  • Friday, May 22, 2015: 4:00pm, 7:30pm
  • Saturday, May 23, 2015: 4:00pm, 7:30pm
  • Sunday, May 24, 2015: 1:30pm, 5:00pm

Tickets are still available for all of the performances. If you’re feeling like getting entertained, this is the place to go in Vancouver. Tickets are only $25 for children and range in price from $40-$120 for adults.

Cirque du Soleil manages to combine Opera, theatre, dance and acrobatics into one jaw-dropping evening of performance. The extremely-athletic performers will transport you into a whimsical, fantastical world that you’ll be talking about for years to come.
