Broadway is coming to the PNE. In a first, Vancouver’s 2015 Pacific National Exhibition – the city’s annual summer fair – will feature a Broadway production: the Tony-nominated hit Peter Pan.

The 90-minute spectacle, free with the price of admission ($16), is to be staged nightly at 7:30 p.m. for 9,500 guests in the Pacific Coliseum for the duration of the fair. It stars Tony Award-nominee Cathy Rigby, hailed by the Washington Post as having “mastered the boy who wouldn’t grow up.”

The production is just one of many new additions for the 2015 PNE, which runs Aug. 22-Sept. 7.

  • Also new this year is the world premier of the Magical History Tour, a travelling exhibit of Beatles’ memorabilia. The most extensive collection of Beatles artifacts ever assembled, it traces the Fab Four from their beginnings in Liverpool to their break up and beyond ($3 surcharge for admittance).

  • Beer lovers also have something to toast about: a mini Craft Beer Fest inside the grounds of the PNE. Over the course of the fair, 20 different local craft brewers will be pouring up to 80 beers brewed in and around the Lower Mainland. A $10 ticket gets you a four-ounce sampling cup and two drink tokens, with additional tokens available for $1.50.
  • Dinosaurs are also taking over the PNE this year. A new Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit lets guests get up close with eight life-sized animatronic models, as well as five static models. In depth stories offer a glimpse of life millions of years ago during the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods.
  • Fan boys (and girls) will get a kick out of the new Superhero Discovery Centre. Explore exhibits (including a half-scale replica of the Batmobile), movie props and rare artifacts while learning about the history of superheroes, from the days of radio to comic books to today’s blockbuster flicks. Guests can even test their skills at interactive stations to see how they would stack up against famous superheroes.

  • Finally, a host of new musical acts is rolling into town for the PNE’s annual Summer Night Concert Series. Free performances each night at 8 p.m. feature a mix of up-and-coming groups, local legends, and old favourites out for one last tour. The lineup this year includes the likes of Colin James (Aug. 22), Clint Black (Aug. 23), The Beach Boys (Aug. 26), Tom Cochrane (Aug. 29), Pat Benatar (Sept. 2), Boyz II Men (Sept. 3), Hall and Oates (Sept. 4) and Loverboy (Sept. 7).

Vancouver’s 2015 PNE runs Aug. 22-Sept. 7, with closures on Monday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 31. General admission is $16 for ages 14-64, free for kids 13 and under and $8 for seniors 64 and older.
