The Coastal Youth Sound Choir will perform as part of Indiekör at the Vogue Theatre Sunday night.

The rubber meets the road this Sunday when a youth choir takes on songs from popular pop and indie-rock bands at the Vogue Theatre.

The fourth annual Indiekör features an evening of music by acts such as Stars, Bon Iver, The New Pornographers, Patrick Watson, The Zombies, Florence and the Machine, as well as Vancouver artists Hey Ocean! and Dan Mangan, not to mention Canadian choral composer Imant Raminsh, and even classical heavy-hitters like Sergei Rachmaninoff and Claudio Monteverdi. The music will be performed by the Coastal Sound Youth Choir, which features 65 singers aged 14-22.

The brainchild of Carrie Tennant, Vancouver choral conductor, Indiekör “evolved out of Tennant’s desire to explore the artistry of popular music alongside the classical choral cannon,” according to the press release. The Salteens, a local pop band with Tennant as a member, will also play.

On the fence? Check out this performance from last year’s Indiekör 2014 to see just how goosebump-raising all those kids’ voices sound when they’re belting out Florence and the Machine’s “Shake It Out”.

Tickets for Indiekör are $23 (adults), $18 (students) and $13 (children under 12) and are available at VogueTheatre.com. The show takes place June 14 at the Vogue Theatre (918 Granville St.).
