Vancouver’s Salt Tasting Room Launch ‘San Sebastián Experiment’ Today with Free Tapas


“You’ll never make people unhappy offering them free food!” laughs Gastown hospitality legend Sean Heather, whose award-winning Salt Tasting Room launches a Spanish-style tapas experiment today which will run until October 11th, in association with speciality food vendors, Bosa Foods.  Free food? Really? Yup. Every guest who comes to Salt Tasting Room from September 8th till October 11th from 3-6pm and orders a drink will be offered a free tapas dish to go with it. 

glass roomInspired by a recent trip to San Sebastián in the Spanish Basque Country, Sean wants to bring a taste of the tapas life to Gastown. “I fell in love with San Sebastián,” says Sean. “I want people to come in, have a drink and a few bites and try something new.” Thanks to Bosa Foods, that ‘something new’ goes way beyond the usual bowl of bar peanuts or popcorn. Guests can pick from delights such as mixed olives, six-month aged manchego cheese, melt-in-the-mouth Ibérico or bone-in Serrano ham, artichoke hearts and Marcona almonds, a prized delicacy in Spain.

STR1The good news for Vancouver foodies is that Sean wants to keep the San Sebastián Experiment going, “I want to have a sustainable model here, if I can give food away with a subsidy from the people that I’ve represented over the years, that’s great. I really hope it catches on and I’m keen to experiment,” he explains. “If it works, we’ll just keep on doing it, it could be one of our Italian suppliers, or someone else, there’s no end of people who’d like to be involved in this.”
