10 Outdoor Resolutions for 2016

It’s that time of year again. Time for my annual commitment to lose weight, improve my fitness level and decrease my carb intake. Despite my best intentions, historically by the end of January I have usually failed. Chocolate replaces carrot sticks, beer replaces water, and a mystery novel replaces my workout at the gym. You understand and hopefully relate to my pattern.

This year I have decided to break with tradition, accept my frailties and look outside for my resolutions. Literally, outside! After all, Vancouver is paradise for those of us who love to embrace the outdoors and researchers agree that Vitamin N (Nature) may be the key to mind-body health and wellness. Goodbye scales, goodbye gym, goodbye beer and hello Vitamin N!

Without further ado, I would like to share my New Year’s resolutions with you and invite you to join me in the great outdoors. I will be realistic about what I can achieve and I will clearly state my goals. I resolve to increase my Vitamin N levels in 2016 by:

  • Trying a new winter sport
  • Enjoying my Saturday morning coffee on the beach
  • Growing something in my garden
  • Hiking a new trail
  • Paddling a new route
  • Completing a self-supported cycle tour
  • Visiting a Nature Centre
  • Walking barefoot in the grass
  • Stargazing
  • Sharing a picnic lunch
