Imagine you’re at dinner with Elijah Wood. People are saying that you’re so cute together. And all you get is dessert. No – you’re at an extravagant flea market with Mark Ruffalo. All you want is some wooden milk crates to line your office, maybe nursery one day. But you don’t say that to anybody. No! You’re at Biltmore Cabaret’s Broad City trivia night with all your best buds. Yas queen!

Broad City’s popularity has been reigning supreme since its launch as a web series in 2009; the show, chronicling the (mis)adventures of best friends Abbi and Ilana as they navigate the years of their 20s in New York City, is produced by both star actresses along with their mentor Amy Poehler. Poehler has also appeared as a guest star on the show, joining the likes of Fred Armisen, Rachel Dratch, Janeane Garofalo, Seth Rogen, Amy Sedaris, and Susie Essman.

Biltmore Cabaret’s Broad City trivia night comes at the heels of the show’s latest season premiere which aired last February and set out to wrap viewers up in the charismatic duo’s strange and smoky world for a third time. “[The Broad City world is] a place where every little thing is a struggle,” Abbi told FLARE magazine in an interview, “but it’s full of hope and joy and fun, and that’s the motivation for everything.” Some of the struggles the girls and their friends experience involve 20-something classics like career and lover woes, roommate drama, and hustling for money, but the details are anything but usual. “We talk about starting off with a mundane task or thing you need to do, and it snowballing.” Anyone who has seen what happens when Ilana simply has to pick up a few hours of work at her food co-op knows that is true.

The Biltmore, unlike the relatively newly popular show, has been a Vancouver fixture for over 50 years, drawing in crowds by showcasing talents from across a wide spectrum of music and the arts. When its neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant underwent a development revival in 2007, the Biltmore Cabaret as it stands today reopened its doors to a dedicated community of music lovers and partygoers. Renowned for burlesque shows, live music, and groundbreaking performances, its monthly trivia nights have brought forth a whole new kind of entertainment, previously featuring other fan favourite flicks and sitcoms like Sex and the City, Friends, Archer and Star Wars. Biltmore Cabaret trivia nights often sell out fast so get your tickets, keep them safe in nature’s pocket, and come test your knowledge of Broad City on April 19.

Just a word of advice: before you leave home, make sure you write your name on all six sides of the cheese.
