2016 Latin American Week starts on July 1st with the Canada Day Parade, featuring a White Salsa Cruise, First Nations and Latin American Art Exhibition, Latin American Film Festival and culminates with Carnaval del Sol.
Carnaval del Sol is a free two-day demonstration of Latin culture that will showcase the the first complimentary culinary show, uniting sixteen chefs who will fuse the cuisines of Latin America and Canada. Peruvian cuisine will be the star of the show and chefs from Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia will be participating in the showdown.
Latin American food vendors will also be onsite serving their delicious recipes throughout the two-day event.
As a pledge for diversity and inclusion, Carnaval del Sol will feature a Canadian / Latin American-inspired fashion show and a ‘World Mini Cup Series’ soccer tournament with Latin American Consulates and Diplomats on the opening night! If you want to get in on the action, sign your team up here.
Event Highlights:
- 300 artists, including musicians, dancers, canvas artists, magicians and puppeteers will be showing off their skills on the Main Stage and at various points throughout the venue.
- 25 live bands will be pumping out tunes, while traditional folk dancers from different countries bust their moves.
- Dance performances and demonstrations include Zumba and Capoeira, Belly Dancers and Salsa lessons.
- Kid-friendly activities include a Mini Chef event, Kids Spa, Arts and Crafts and performances that include Yoyo demonstrations, magicians, puppets and much, much more!
