Vancouver’s New Monthly Drag Event, B-Roll, Gender-Bends TV and Movie Classics

B-Roll Kill Bill

By Kendell Yan

Alright Vancouver, get ready to wiggle your big toe because The Bride is coming to town and she’s got a serious bloodlust for revenge in a six-inch heel! The inaugural B-Roll show will see Kill Bill reimagined by local drag queens who know how to shanté down that fabulous and crooked line of vengeance.

B-Roll is Vancouver’s newest monthly drag show at the historic Penthouse nightclub on Seymour street. On the last Monday of every month, a rotating cast of our city’s most talented performers will take on your favourite movies and TV shows for a night of gender-bending and subversive reinterpretation.

Vancouver Art and Leisure queen, B-Roll co-creator, and one of the final six in the Mr/Ms Cobalt 2016 competition, Dee Blew and will host B-Roll’s maiden show as the second in command of the Tokyo underground, Sofie Fatale.

Joining Dee Blew on stage are Jane Smokr as The Bride, Karmella Barr as Vernitta Green, Glitteris as Elle Driver, Shay Dior as O-Ren Ishii, Coco Klein as Gogo Yubari, and Rose Butch as Bill.

This is an opportunity to check some of Vancouver’s greatest talents in the drag queendom as they push themselves creatively each month with familiar roles in new and refreshing ways. Come get a taste of what these young and incredible artists have to offer – it’s sure to be a hot and sticky bloodbath as one thing’s for sure, “that woman deserves her revenge and we deserve to die.”

Tickets are $10 – $15 and available here.
