Vancouver’s Jessie Award-nominated independent theatre company, Seven Tyrants Theatre, is staging the Western Canada premiere of Topdog/Underdog, winner of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The dark comedy by Suzan-Lori Parks is directed by David Newham at Studio 1398 (1398 Cartwright Street, on Vancouver’s Granville Island) for ten performances from November 24 to December 3, 2016.

Featuring a jazz score designed by local musician Daniel Deorksen and performed live by a three-piece jazz orchestra, the play focuses on two brothers, Lincoln and Booth, whose names were given to them as a joke, and pretty much dictated their lifetime of sibling rivalry. Lincoln is a former three-card monte hustler now working as an Abraham Lincoln impersonator in a rundown arcade; Booth is a shoplifter who wants his brother to return to street hustling.

With pithy writing and top notch performances, this timely play is worth including in your evening out.
