This weekend begins with the recognition and remembrance of those who have served in preserving peace, many of whom lost their lives and still have an impact on people alive today. On Saturday, it is the day commemorating Louis Riel, the late 1800s Métis political leader who also sought to preserve rights and culture in Canada. Enjoy peace, culture, and celebration all weekend with a ton of diverse events.

Remembrance Day Ceremony and Parade
Where: Victory Square, 9:45am
What: The program begins with a performance by the Vancouver Bach Youth Choir and Sarabande, followed by a parade of veterans, military marching units and bands to Victory Square. Somberly observe Two Minutes of Silence, during which a 21-gun salute by the 15th Field Artillery Regiment will be heard from Portside Park. The enduring In Flanders Fields will then be sung and wreaths will be placed at the Cenotaph.

What: V’ni Dansi preserves traditional Métis dance and also creates innovative contemporary works. Eagle Spirit is a contemporary solo choreographed and performed by artistic airector Yvonne Chartrand, which probes themes of death and rebirth, and the eagle’s connection to the spirit world. The Louis Riel Métis Dancers, V’ni Dansi’s traditional dance troupe, will perform the joyous jigs, reels and square dances that Métis culture is famed for, to the music of a live band.
