With the still chilly winter temperatures, you may find yourself craving food with lively and comforting heat. If so, you’re in luck with the return of the Curry Cup, now in its fifth incarnation.

Held by the Chef’s’ Table Society of BC, the much anticipated event promises to be a sampling of eight different curries from renowned local chefs, a fierce culinary competition, a celebration of drink and food, and a fundraiser for worthy causes.

The Curry Cup takes place on March 13, 2018 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street)

This year, eight Vancouver top chefs will be competing for the coveted Curry Cup trophy, with attendees getting the opportunity to try and vote for all entries.

In previous events, aromatic and diverse curry dishes to be sampled included lemongrass turmeric ling cod curry (Burdock & Co.), Keralan crab and coconut curry (CIBO and Uva), lamb Dhansak (Hawksworth), and Caribbean chicken channa (Perch). Felix Zhou from Heritage Asian Eatery won the 4th Curry Cup (both the Peoples’ and Judges’ Choice Awards) with a Yarrow Meadows duck curry, enlivened by Szhechuan peppercorns and spices like cardamom and cumin, that was served with a potato rösti.

This year will also involve stiff competition for the Curry Cup and the Peoples’ Choice Award. Hosted by Fred Lee (CBC Radio and the Province), the judges will be Vikram Vij, Harry McWatters of Encore Vineyards, Tim Pawsey from the Vancouver Courier, Felix Zhou (last year’s winner), and Taryn Wa, the winner of the 1st Curry Cup and Peoples’ Choice Award.

Proceeds will go in support of the Chef’s’ Table Society of BC, a non-profit society comprised of BC’s leading chefs and culinary professionals, as well as a Project Chef, an exemplary and inspirational program that visits elementary schools in the city and teaches children about healthy eating and cooking.
