Celebrate Soul, Motown, and Drag with a Cause at Sweet Bubbling Nights in Vancouver

By Kendell Yan

In a rousing evening of fabulous music, live entertainment, drag, and a silent auction, Soulful Productions’ Sweet Bubbling Nights brings 23 of the city’s most iconic musical talents, drag queens, and dancers together at the Vancouver Playhouse for a worthy cause. In memorial of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016, the night will raise funds and bring attention to a worthy cause for LGBTI2+ youth around the globe.

On June 12th, 2016, 49 people were killed when the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida was targeted and opened fire on by a single shooter. At the time it was the largest mass shooting by a single person in US history. Following the tragic shooting the LGBTI2+ Pulse Memorial Scholarship was established, providing financial support to LGBTI2+ youth around the world who are in pursuit of university or college education. The application process for hopeful students in 2018 begins on June 30, 2018. In 2017 there were 34 applicants from 10 countries including Afghanisatan, Columbia, Vietnam, Canada, and more.

There will be a silent auction with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the LGBTI Pulse Memorial Scholarship fund. Prizes include tickets to Frank Marino’s Divas in Las Vegas; Mardis Gras 2019 After Party tickets in Sydney, Australia; gift certificates to luxury hotels and top restaurants in Vancouver; and products and services from both local and national businesses.

Entertainment for the evening includes Vancouver drag royalty Willie Taylor, Carlotta Gurl, and Justine Tyme, as well as musical artists Sibel Thrasher, Marcus Mosley, Candace Churchill, Bill Sample, and Daniel Szabo, with members of Queer As Funk, and House of La Douche. These are huge names in gospel, jazz, funk, motown, soul, and showtunes as well as gender performance.

Sweet Bubbling Nights is one night only! June 23, 2018 at the Vancouver Playhouse. Doors open at 8:00pm.
