Spring and summer are marching towards us– and, now that warm weather, long days and dazzling sunshine are on the horizon, our viewing tastes are shifting to productions that celebrate the heat. In their own way, the four productions below positively sizzle: cue them up, pour a mojito and get yourself psyched for spring!

Happy Gilmore  Classic Adam Sandler, this popcorn flick follows rejected hockey player Happy Gilmore as he enters a golf tournament so he can win the prize money and save his grandmother’s house. Happy’s tee-offs take place at sun-washed golf courses around the Lower Mainland (particularly the Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club in Pitt Meadows), and mild spring weather is the perfect time to re-enact his adventures. Hit the links close to Vancouver at Northlands Golf Course, situated 20 minutes from downtown and open to all skill levels (you might see dear, eagles and even bears during your tee time!); Furry Creek Golf & Country Club, located along the dramatic Sea to Sky Highway leading from Vancouver to Whistler; and dozens more.

21 Jump Street  We all know the movie, but how many of us have seen the original 21 Jump Street, which helped to launch Johnny Depp’s acting career? The show followed a squad of undercover police officers posing as teens in high school and college; the story particularly spices up in the finale episode of season two when the Jump Street Program is suspended for the summer and the undercover team is forced to seek summer jobs. As you rewatch, you might catch a glimpse of the SkyTrain zooming by in background shots (click here to plan a sightseeing daytrip using the Skytrain and other public transport), and recognize the cobbled streets of Gastown or the halls of New Westminster Secondary School.

Fifty Shades Freed  The final installment of this titillating trilogy heats up even more when Ana and Christian embark on an exotic vacation. While the frisky honeymoon was filmed in France and Monaco, the trilogy’s tradition of filming in Vancouver continues with locations like Bar None in Yaletown, which doubled as a nightclub in Aspen; and Riverway Golf Course in Burnaby, which hosted the couple’s elaborate wedding (visit the location for yourself, then settle in for a luxe lunch paired with sweeping views of the course at Riverway Clubhouse). Riverdale  The explosive series has us #obsessed, but here’s a quick recap for Riverdale newbies: the series kicks off in the heat of summer, when star quarterback Jason Blossom is killed; Archie Andrews engages in a secret tryst with his music teacher, Ms. Grundy; and Veronica Lodge barrels into town with a feisty fire that attracts Archie and Betty equally. That smokin’ summer has stretched into three roller coaster seasons, each more sultry than the last. Warm-weather touring abounds with filming locations like Alouette Lake at Golden Ears Provincial Park (“Sweetwater River”), the Twilight Drive-in (playing itself) and others outlined here.
