For the intense collector, the enthusiast, and just those who are curious, the Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show is worth the visit this weekend.
Featuring 100+ vendors from across the country, this is Western Canada’s largest gem show, with all that you could ask for in the gem, mineral, and jewellery world.
The Vancouver Gem & Mineral show is taking place this Friday, March 22nd and running until Sunday, March 24th!
So, what can you expect at a gem show? Everything you can think of, from unique minerals and gems to fine crystals, rare fossils, handmade jewellery, fancy beads and findings, lapidary art, and more.
Aside from Vancouver, the travelling show takes place in four other cities across Canada (Edmonton, Victoria, Calgary, Saskatoon).
Vancouver Gem and Mineral Show
The founder Alex Kuznetsov, 39, is a Russian-born geologist who moved to Canada in 2003, leaving his collection of rocks behind, but not his passion for earthly treasures. In an interview for the Calgary Journal, he explains the draw to the show:
“Each vendor will explain to you, and tell the stories of every stone on the table. Under each specimen is a unique story,” he said.
“It could be just a perfect crystal, or it could be really ugly, dirty and black; but when you understand why it is rare, why it is unique, it’s really cool. It’s very educational. You can bring your kids, and kids love rocks.”
Taking place at the PNE Forum (2901 East Hastings), the Vancouver Gem Show will be open for three days of rockin’ good time:
Friday, 22 March 2019, 1pm-9pm
Saturday, 23 March 2019, 10am-6pm
Sunday, 24 March 2019, 10am-5pm
For $8, you’ll get access to amazing vendors selling their one-of-a-kind items, hourly door prizes, and some special surprises. Seniors/students will pay just $6 and children 12 and under get in free.
