It started in 1985 with 3,200 runners trotting through the streets of downtown Vancouver.

Fast-forward to the present and the Vancouver Sun Run is the biggest 10K road race in Canada, with more than 40,000 participants running one of the prettiest courses anywhere in the world. And this year, the race is shaping up to be more memorable than ever.

Tens of thousands of runners and spectators are expected to pack the downtown core this Sunday, April 17, for the 32nd instalment of the Vancouver Sun Run. A seasonal rite of passage for Vancouverites, the festive run brings out everyone from world-class athletes to office mates who have been training for weeks and moms and dads pushing strollers.  Continue reading:

Ready to Run? Canada’s Biggest 10K Takes over Vancouver, April 19

If you’ve noticed big groups of runners trotting through the streets of Vancouver the last few weeks, there’s a good reason.

The Vancouver Sun Run, Canada’s biggest 10K race, is Sunday, April 19. Each spring, around 50,000 runners – from world-class athletes to moms and dads pushing strollers – line up for the dash through downtown Vancouver. Now in it’s 31st year, the Sun Run has become a seasonal rite of passage for Vancouverites, with groups of friends and coworkers training for weeks (sometimes months) in advance of the big race.

Part of the Sun Run’s popularity may stem from the fact that it’s got to be one of the prettiest 10K courses anywhere. Continue reading:

Marathon Dance Party Coming to Vancouver: Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

Want to get a head start on those New Year’s resolutions? How about training for Vancouver’s newest – and funkiest – new marathon?

The first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event is coming to Vancouver, Oct. 26. Featuring both a 10K and a half-marathon, the event is equal parts live music party and road race.

Along each mile of the course, bands are on hand to pump up runners.  Music ranges from rock and soul to jazz, blues and even punk. Dozens of live music groups in total transform the race into a giant dance party.  (In fact, local bands are being recruited shortly, if you’d like to rock out in front of thousands of runners and fans).

Burn those Thanksgiving Calories at the Turkey Trot 10K in Vancouver, October 8

Looking for a way to work off some Thanksgiving calories?  Put down that drumstick and head to Granville Island on Monday, Oct. 8, for the annual Turkey Trot 10K.

Now in its 14th year, the Turkey Trot is defined as a “run/walk/stroll.”  In other words, if you don’t feel like sprinting after a weekend of stuffing your face with pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes, then you don’t have to.  The unique race is equal parts competition and family get-together.  There’s even a special Tot Trot, where moms and dads can push junior in a stroller.

The Turky Trot route itself, which circles False Creek, seems more like sightseeing than road racing. Continue reading:
