An estimated 400,000 people (per night) are ready to descend on Vancouver’s English Bay for one of the most explosive parties of the summer.
The Honda Celebration of Light fireworks are back for their 25th instalment, this July 25-Aug. 1. The unique fireworks competition sees three different national teams “face off” on separate nights for pyrotechnic supremacy. This year, China lights up the sky on Saturday, July 25, followed by Brazil on Wednesday, July 29, and finally home team Canada on Saturday, Aug. 1.
While the nightly fireworks are the big draw, the party begins well before that. As part of Shorefest, there will be live music on the beach, starting at 2 p.m. on Sunset Beach and culminating with performances at 7:15 p.m. on English Bay. (Headliners this year include Plantinum blonde, Randy Bachman and Chilliwack.) Food trucks and the Stanley Park Brewing Bistro beer garden at Sunset Beach keep revellers well fed and hydrated throughout the day and into the evening. Continue reading:
