No need to fly to New York, Vancouver has its own Christmas Tree Lighting celebration that takes place every year to mark the official start of the holiday season… (despite the fact that stores were already full of Christmas decorations just after Halloween).

Back for its 10th year, the 2016 Vancouver Christmas Tree Lighting celebration will be taking place on Friday, December 2nd from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Robson Square. This free public festival is a highlight for kids of all ages and includes music, crafts, free hot chocolate and cookies, and even a visit from Santa himself!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Holiday Cheer Contest on Main St at the Cascade Room Tree Trimming Party

The holiday season officially begins on Tuesday December 1 on Main Street at 5pm with the cheery elves over at the Cascade Room, who are throwing their very first tree trimming party. Five trees are ready and waiting for you to get festive, and there are boxes of tinsel, ornaments and lights to help with the artistic process. All five trees will be in the restaurant through till New Year, so you can have total bragging rights whenever you visit and tell your friends how you made that christmas tree miracle come to life!

To help bring seasonal cheer, the Cascade Room will be serving up dark cherry brandy-spiked spicy mulled wine, along with two punch bowls– a Spice Island rum punch made to a closely guarded secret recipe, and a Jameson Irish Whiskey punch spiced with ginger, clove and citrus. Tickets are $25 incl. tax and fees and available online. Punch is bottomless from 5-7pm, mulled wine will be served until supplies run out and light snacks will be served. Continue reading:
