I’m a sucker for a happy ending and that’s why I’m excited about Diwali, an important five-day festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism, which proclaims the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Celebrating Diwali in Vancouver’s Little India District

Diwali, the five-day religious festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, is in full swing in Vancouver this week, running from Nov.2-7.   In an earlier post, Dana outlined the events happening downtown, including a big free celebration this Sunday at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown featuring feasting, dancing and dozens of other performances.

Diwali is an important five-day festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism, and a major celebration among South Asian communities in both Vancouver and throughout the Lower Mainland. In Vancouver, the biggest Diwali celebration is the annual Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival, which runs from November 2 – 7, 2010.

Produced by the non-profit Diwali Celebration Society, the 7th annual Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival has two major events: the Opening Ceremonies on November 2 and Diwali Downtown, a massive, FREE all-day festival at Yaletown’s Roundhouse Community Centre on November 7. While the Opening Ceremonies start the festival with panache—and an official recognition of the holiday—it’s Diwali Downtown that shouldn’t be missed.

The 6th Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival takes place from October 8 – 18, 2009, and features a diverse array of multi-cultural events, ranging from music, dance and comedy performances to arts workshops and crafts vendors. And, of course, loads of mouth-watering Indian food!
