Renowned Foodist and TV personality Alton Brown brings his Edible Inevitable Tour to Vancouver.  Don’t miss the Food Network star’s show, featuring a pinch of comedy, talk show antics, a multimedia lecture, live music (he sings!) and a dash of “extreme” food experimentation (ponchos are provided for those in the first few rows), and of course…puppets.  Enthusiastic fans and critics have raved about the interactive component where Brown invites audience members on stage to serve as his assistant.

The 20th FIFA World Cup is off to a exhilirating start. If you’re anything like me, you love the thrill of cheering for your team with other like minded, similarly dressed folks with an equal level of passion for yelling at the screen.

Quite a few local media outlets have created some really great World Cup watching guides such as this one and this one.  CBC has even put together a fantastic interactive map of places to watch the FIFA World Cup around Vancouver.

World Cup games can run more than two hours with extra time, the half time interval and/or penalty kicks so you’ll likely get peckish as you watch some of the fittest legs in the world run up and down the pitch.

Eat Local Think Global Vancouver: 5 Foodie Resolutions for 2014

January is here and with it is a time for reflection and resolution. Last year I resolved to do a lot of budget-friendly yoga. This year I plan to focus on building my brain and making food choices that will not only feed my growing little family, but also tread lightly on the planet.

Vancouver is a locavore hotspot. Our city is the birthplace of the 100-mile diet phenomenon. Chefs from restaurants like Bishops, Forage, Raincity Grill and Campagnolo regularly change their menus to match the seasons and embrace vendors and suppliers who source local and organic food.

This year I looked for resolution inspiration from two local foodies who are passionate about ‘eating local and thinking global.’ Below you’ll find new year’s resolutions ideas from Lindsay Coulter, David Suzuki Foundation’s Queen of Green, and Katharine Manson of the Chef’s Table Society and Hastings North Business Improvement Association. Their food and drink resolutions inspired me to share my own commitments to becoming a better locavore.
