Wu-Tang Clan, free concert lineup announced by 2019 Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan comes to the 2019 Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

In what is kind of a big deal, the 2019 Vancouver International Jazz Festival has announced a headlining show by legendary hip-hop act Wu-Tang Clan.

The group, whose 1993 album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is considered one of the best hip-hop debuts ever released, plays the Queen Elizabeth Theatre June 23. Tickets for what is sure to be a sold-out show start at $69 and go on sale this Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at coastaljazz.ca.

The festival, which is going into its 34th year, runs June 21 to July 1. Other headliners include the Roots (June 28) and Herbie Hancock (June 29).

As usual, organizers Coastal Jazz are also presenting a ton of free concerts. Many of these are at the Vanccouver Art Gallery/Robson Square (June 22/23), David Lam Park (June 29/30), and Granville Island (for Canada Day Celebrations) July 1. Performers include King Ayisoba, Yonatan Gat and the Eastern Medicine Singers, Troker, and more. Find out more below.

Programmed by Coastal Jazz, the folks put on the Vancouver International Jazz Festival each year, Winter Jazz on Granville Island features four free concerts from Feb. 22-24. Jazz Fest announces 150 free concerts!

UK singer/composer Gwyneth Herbert is among the performers at the 2018 Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

The 33rd Annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival just announced 150 free concerts at indoor and outdoor venues this summer, between June 22—July 1.

This year’s festival features hundreds of musicians participating in over 300 concerts at 35 indoor and outdoor venues. The 150 free concerts feature local, national and international artists. Venues include St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church (1022 Nelson St.), The Ironworks (235 Alexander St.), Granville Island in the afternoons (and all day on Canada Day), and at several venues on the North Shore.

Free CBC downtown musical nooner series starts this Friday!

The CBC free summer concert series Musical Nooners kicks off this Friday, July 7 with a performance by Said the Whale. The local Juno Award-winning indie rock band Said The Whale headlines the special two-hour concert, which begins at noon with a set by local act Fake Shark.

The PNE opened up its gates for the festival of the summer this weekend, and we’ve already been treated to a few days of fun. One of the highlights of the PNE has got to be the free summer concerts that are held every night at 8:30pm.

It’s a unique venue and a unique opportunity to watch some of your favourite bands perform for free with fair gate admission ($17 at the gate or $13 online)! Without having to pay the cost of a concert ticket, you’ll have even more extra cash on hand to buy a couple extra bags of delicious mini donuts!
