If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to spend less money (and, let’s be honest, we’ll all need that after the holiday season) it doesn’t mean you have to stop having fun!

While we could fill a list of free things to do easily with the abundance of walkable nature trails in Vancouver (or snowshoeing, like Hollyburn Mountain pictured in the image above), we wanted to include some other ideas incase the rain sticks around for awhile.

So, if your purse strings are drawn a little tighter lately, check out this fabulous list of 10 FREE things to do in Vancouver for January.

Ready yourself for the beginning of The Fair at the PNE, an interstellar tall ship performance, dancing horses, a doughnut marathon, craft festivals, and a celebration of garlic! After the weekend, be sure to cap it off by being outside for the partial solar eclipse on Monday; by 10:21am the sun will be mostly blocked out by the moon. You can watch through special glasses, a home-made pinhole camera, or just watch the effect on the shadows around you, the wildlife, and the surrounding sky as the sun’s light turns to a sliver.

Things to Do this Weekend in Vancouver: May 25, 2017

This weekend arts are all around us with artist studios opening up to the public in Mount Pleasant, Point Grey and on Granville Island. There’s an international art fair at the Convention Centre, a theatre festival at The Cultch, and outdoor dancing at Robson Square and the Davie Village. Vancouver Craft Beer Week has also begun, with tastings popping up in breweries and restaurants all over. (For a relaxing break from festivities, this weekend is also ideal the head to VanDusen Botanical Garden – the longer winter means that the spring blooms are all lighting up the landscape a little later this year, as in, right now!)
