South Korean pop star Kim Tae-yeon plays the Albatross Music Festival this weekend at Hastings Racecourse.
Albatross Music Festival is a two-day outdoor music festival happening this weekend (Sept 14-15) at Hastings Racecourse. What’s unusual about this music festival—which happens the same weekend as the Westward Music Festival—is the lineup, which is predominantly Asian.
The musicians come from as far away as the Philippines, Hong Kong and South Korea, and as near as Vancouver and Surrey, B.C. Genres run the gamut from hip-hop to K-pop to traditional Mongolian music. Who will be the wiener in the race for top dog?! This weekend, Hastings Racecourse is going to the dogs with the annual Wiener Dog Races taking place on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.
The Wiener Dog Races at Hastings Racecourse are a highlight of every Vancouver summer and its a sight that really must be seen at least once. You may have never actually seen a dachshund run, but these dogs can go fast when money and dignity is on the line!

Wiener Dogs Race for Top Dog Trophy this Weekend in Vancouver

Dig out your fanciest fascinators and flashiest bow ties, and get ready for one of Vancouver’s most stylish affairs featuring horse racing, cocktail-swilling, whisky-and-cigar pairings and a fashion runway show-down. The ninth annual Deighton Cup hits the Hastings Racecourse on Saturday, July 22, from 11am to 6pm, and this year organizers have pulled out all the stops to transform this old-fashioned derby into one of the hottest events of the summer.

Last year, I visited London in June, and was really hoping to go to the Royal Ascot races. I love the glamour of the event, the over-the-top fancy hats, and the glitterati (including the Royal Family) in attendance. Alas, logistically, it wasn’t meant to be.
Fortunately, I have the opportunity to don my finery and watch horse races at one of my favourite Vancouver events of the summer! My boyfriend, who usually lives in jeans and a t-shirt, will also be transformed. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t own a top hat and waistcoat, but we’ll find some, I’m sure.
