This week, production on a TV series based on a children’s book series has come to an end as the series has shot its last season.

But a Disney feature film based on a children’s novel is headed this way, along with a sci-fi feature film.

And there’s also a TV pilot that’ll take viewers back into the days of grunge rock.

Here’s a look at what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene at the moment and in the near future.

Filming in Vancouver: A Series of Unfortunate Events, plus shows calling it a wrap in December

December is also upon us, which means it’s almost time for the holiday season.

That also means a number of film and TV productions will be saying farewell to our fair city before the new year arrives.

But since the industry’s motto is “the show must always go on”, there are still some productions coming into town and others that are stalwartly marching on throughout the winter.

Here’s a quick rundown of the films and TV series that’ll be calling it a wrap this coming month—with a few other notes about comings and goings.

Although The Flash is racing towards its season finale, the show has been renewed for another season.

While two superhero TV series are wrapping up production this week, the good news is that some new productions will be coming to Vancouver over the next few months. And a lemony TV series kicks off in town today.

But let’s start off with some news for the legions of Deadpool fans.

Ryan Reynolds is returning to slice and dice up Vancouver for Deadpool 2.

While all eyes may have been turned to Hollywood last night—with that little known ceremony otherwise know as the Academy Awards—there are some notes of interest of what’s shooting in Hollywood North’s screen scene.

Among them are confirmed dates for when the Merc With the Mouth and Count Olaf return to our West Coast metropolis. There are also revealed casts for two TV series, and a Canadian production kicks off today.

While Vancouver may be nicknamed Hollywood North, it might as well be also known as Fanboy/girl/person Central.

You see, our city has long been the shooting destination for numerous sci-fi and fantasy series and films, with many thanks in part to the booming local visual FX industry. (Vancouver became the world’s largest visual effects and animation hub after Sony Imageworks relocated its headquarters here last July.)
