The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents Noche Flamenca’s Antigona, their critically-acclaimed work fusing flamenco and Greek tragedy, March 12 at 7pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. Adapted from Sophocles’ Antigone, and starring Bessie-award winner Soledad Barrio as the lead, Antigona looks at repression, heroism and loss in a fiery, multi-media spectacle.

Things to Do in Vancouver This Weekend

Walk through the crisp leaves of many Vancouver neigbourhoods and you can see Halloween has begun! Jack-O-Lanters are coming out and cotton webbing has been woven trough tree branches (as well as some real webbing – those stripey-legged barn spiders are getting huge…)  A host of new spooky events are on this weekend, but that’s not all – there is an ambient music festival, Indian cinema, an animation festival, and even a morning of free movies.

Once again you’ve waited ’til the last minute and, unless you want to eat at 4 p.m., all your favourite restaurants are booked up. Meanwhile the hotel packages look great but you want something a little bit different (not to mention easier on the pocketbook) to impress your significant other. What do you do?

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of weird and potentially wonderful events waiting to entertain you and your loved one in Vancouver. And if you’re single, these might be the best places for an unexpected look from a stranger’s eyes. Just remember to invite us to the wedding. (All events Feb. 14 2013).
