Is it too early to get excited about Dine Out?

Vancouver’s annual restaurant fest returns for its 12th year this Jan. 17-Feb. 2. Organizers have just released details on some new twists.

The largest festival of its kind in Canada, Dine Out transforms the city into a moveable feast, as hundreds of restaurants offer prix fixe menus priced at $18, $28 or $38.  It’s a unique opportunity to sample some of the city’s top restaurants, from old favourites to up-and-comers, at discount prices.  Not to mention during the dark, rainy days of January, Dine Out lends some food-filled excitement to the post-holiday grind.

For 2014, organizers have opted to expand the Dine Out events lineup, the growing list of food- and drink-themed satellite events that many consider the best part of the festival. Continue reading:

Is it too early to start talking about Dine Out Vancouver?  The yearly restaurant fest, which offers deeply discounted menus at the city’s best restaurants and attracts tens of thousands of foodies, gourmands and gluttons, is set to hit Vancouver Jan. 18 – Feb. 3.

Each year Dine Out Vancuver seems to get bigger and bigger – more restaurants, more tasting tours and cooking classes, more ways to stuff your face in style – and this year appears to be no exception.

According to organizers at Tourism Vancouver, 230 restaurants are lined up for the Dine Out Vancouver Festival 2013.  They’ll all feature the same three-course, prix fixe menus we’ve come to expect, at $18, $28 and $38 price points.  BC wine pairings for each course are available at an extra cost.

While participating restaurants haven’t been revealed yet (that happens when online reservations open on Jan. 7), some details have been leaked about new Dine Out-themed events.   Continue reading:

Caution: Reading this post may make you hungry.  Details on Vancouver’s 10th annual Dine Out (Jan. 20-Feb. 5) are beginning to surface, and it looks like it might be the best one ever.

Dine Out, if you haven’t been initiated, is the yearly festival where the city’s top restaurants offer three-course prix-fixe menus at deeply discounted prices.  For people who love food, it’s a chance to “taste drive” the best of the culinary scene – everything from haute cuisine to intimate bistros, trendy lounges and ethnic fare – without breaking the bank.

This year’s Dine Out runs Jan. 20-Feb. 5.  Prices for the special three-course dinners are set at $18, $28 or $38, depending on the restaurant.  In total, 225 restaurants in the city will be participating – a new record.  The names of these restaurants – as always – are a hotly guarded secret . . . for now.

Back in May, a 10-meter-long grey whale swam right into downtown Vancouver, following the curves of False Creek into the heart of the city.  Tourists and locals alike lined up to take photos of the massive animal, whose appearance made headlines in Vancouver and around the world.

But if you missed that whale sighting, don’t worry.  There’s another coming up, and this one even has a time and date.   Just one hitch: This particular whale’s been dead for 23 years.
