There’s the ballet – and then there’s the Nutcracker ballet. Whether you’re a devoted dance enthusiast or a newbie to the classical art form, this holiday performance is a can’t-miss event for adults and kids of all ages.

This year, Vancouver’s beloved Ballet BC welcomes the Royal Winnipeg Ballet to the stage in a very-Canadian version of the age-old ballet classic. Here’s what you can expect from this magical performance.

Outdoor Movie Alert: Catch a Public Screening of L’arbitro at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza

L'ARBITRO

Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre, with the help of Civic Theatres of Vancouver, will be organizing and running a free public event at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza. A screening of Paolo Zucca’s 2013 film L’arbitro will be held in the theatre’s outdoor plaza and will be free to the public to attend. Although the movie starts at sunset, the evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with live musical entertainment. There will be food trucks present and the bar, concession, and outdoor patio of the Queen Elizabeth theatre will be open throughout the evening.

Disney’s NEWSIES is Coming to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, July 5-10 (Free Ticket Giveaway!)

There are shows on outdoor stages, in parks and on streetcorners. There are shows in small clubs and bars, even restaurants. But the 2016 Vancouver International Jazz Festival also excels at big-ticket concerts, and this year’s lineup is no exception, running the gamut from a (perhaps) once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between three acclaimed singer/songwriters to a man who made his name telling others to Look Sharp! to one of today’s premiere blues bands.
