Get ready to green it up, folks. The Vancouver Saint Patrick’s Day Parade 2013 will (sham)rock downtown Vancouver Sunday, March 17.

Vancouver is good at celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. We’ve got CelticFest – nine straight days of Celtic food and drink, music and dancing from March 9 to 17.  Then there’s the ultimate shake-your-shamrocks St. Patrick’s Day party at the Blarney Stone in historic Gastown on March 17.

But the biggest event by far is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which draws a crowd of 350,000+ spectators and features 2,000 participants, including Celtic and Irish dancers, award-winning pipe and drum bands, acrobats, stilt walkers, antique vehicles, the Vancouver police motorcycle drill team, and more.

The parade starts at 11am March 17. Find all the details you need on the parade route after the jump. Continue reading:

Vancouver is home to some 250,000 people of proud Irish descent.  So when St. Paddy’s Day rolls around, there’s more than just a parade.  There’s a full-blown festival:  an entire week of music, dance, parties and Celtic spirit.

The eighth annual CelticFest Vancouver kicks off on March 10 with a day-long party in the the waterfront Village on False Creek (formerly Olympic Village).  (Editor’s Note: CelticFest represents the 7 Celtic nations, not just Ireland).  Expect plenty of fiddling and dancing, Celtic food and free family fun.

Top 5: Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at Vancouver’s Top 5 Irish Pubs

As a person of Irish heritage (there’s actually a Lynch Castle in Ireland; it’s now a bank), I have to admit to a special soft spot for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. How can anyone not love all the green and shamrocks and crazy leprechaun hats?

Which is one reason I was truly disappointed when the 2010 Vancouver St. Patrick’s Day Parade was cancelled because of the Paralympic Games. (CelticFest, the Parade’s organizers, feared a scarcity of resources.) The Parade will be back in 2011, but its absence this year doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of St. Patrick’s Day partying around town!

And where better to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than at one of Vancouver’s best Irish pubs?
